 Cheryl
knows she is a spiritual person. For some
time now, she and her husband Mike have been talking about
establishing a spiritual foundation for their young
children. But Cheryl’s early church experiences left her
with a sense of alienation. She grew up in a church that
required strict adherence to its interpretations of
scripture. No questioning or discussion of other views was
allowed. The requisite blind faith may have been comforting
in some situations, but in the face of some real life
dilemmas, when bad things happen to essentially good people,
Cheryl and others she knows didn’t find the guidance,
compassion and support they needed in the church’s
teachings. So now Cheryl wonders if there are other
approaches to Christianity that can
